First ‘Kick-Ass 2′ Clip is Under 140 Characters, Urges You to Follow @MotherF_cker on Twitter

mother-fucker

Often, new movies and television shows use Twitter as a marketing tool. Sometimes it's cool, other times awesome, - like director Joss Whedon using the Much Ado About Nothing account which led to his own, personal Twitter account - and then there's those awful attempts that feel like your parents trying to be hip with the cool kids. Thankfully, the new account, @MotherF_cker, which is of course around to promote Kick-Ass 2, is the awesome kind. As in, it reads just as if you were following The Mother F%&*^r on Twitter. Which, I guess, now you are.

The only thing that could possibly make this better is if it was Christopher Mintz-Plasse running the account, but at least whomever they've got doing it is doing a bang-up job as the evil asshole.

There's this new clip released as well, heralding The Mother F%&*^r's tweeting,

src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7HSpCMpUMYQ?feature=player_embedded" height="350" width="600" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0">

And last I checked, @MotherF_ucker's got over 2,ooo followers. Will you be one of them?

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010's irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass' (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)-reborn as The Mother F%&*^r-only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

Kick-Ass 2 hits theatres on August 16th.

‘The Crow’ Creator James O’Barr Joins Remake; Does This Make You Feel Any Better?

thecrow

In a move that's going to put a lot of fans at ease, Variety is reporting James O'Barr, creator of the original graphic novel, is now involved with Relativity Media's new adaptation of The Crow as a "creative consultant." This remake already has F. Javier Gutierrez directing, screenwriter Cliff Dorfman, and Luke Evans attached to star. Shooting won't begin until 2014, but expect both O'Barr and Gutierrez to appear at San Diego Comic-Con.

Here's a little statement from O'Barr,

It is important for 'Crow' fans to understand that Relativity, Javier, Luke and the entire team are working on a new adaptation of the book itself. I believe that this movie will stand alongside Brandon and his film as a valid work of art, and I look forward to collaborating on the project.

It seems in the coming weeks we'll learn more about the direction they're hoping to take this new adaptation - don't call it a remake! - but how are you feeling about it now? What do you think of O'Barr coming on board as a creative consultant?

Nerd Art Dump: Monster Fighting Robots, Mother of Dragons, Zombie Cats, & MOAR!

tumblr_mp9nujWspT1r1jfkxo1_1280

Each and every week we scour the Internet for nothing but the best in nerdy art. We leave no digital stone unturned, we poke and prod every nook and cranny of the Interwebz. Why? Because we love you, and we love to bring you weekly feed of nerd art.

On with the dump!

Above: Berkay Daglar didn't have to do much to get us excited about this Pacific Rim poster, we were taken the moment we saw the giant robot. It just helps they made a sweet poster that I personally wouldn't mind having hung in my living room right about now. [Berkay Daglar]

We've been waiting for a proper reboot of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Otto Schmidt may have just kickstarted everything. Removing all the slapstick and the steroids of the 80s' series and giving everyone a more modernized tone, Otto has made a He-man series worth watching. And honestly, I missed Orko the first time I saw this, see how fast you can find him. [Geek Tyrant]

Yes, Wonder Woman is lovely to stare at, but watch out for that rope of her's or "mercy" won't be the only thing you're saying between her punches. This quick sketch, that's right sketch, by JimboBox is perfect. [Deviant Art]

We featured the touching work of Andry Rajoelina and his comic book families before with DC, but now he's at it again with the heroes of Marvel. And no, we're not crying, we're just upset there's no more tickets to Comic-Con. Why must you make us feel, Andry? [Herochan]

The first family of Marvel and the Fantastic Four get their own retro poster thanks to Colby H Bryant. It makes you just want to get into the Fantastic car and get to punching Doctor Doom in his silly metal face. [Herochan]

The Lich in Adventure Time is mean, scary and a downright evil dude, but thankfully he's just a cartoon character. That was until artist Sam Denmark put his digital pen to work and created a version of the villain that would give Freddy Krueger nightmares. Remember, he can't hurt you if you have a sweater imbued with the power of "liking someone a lot" - we hope. [Obvious Winner]

This season of Game of Thrones may be over, but the stellar artwork continues to go on. Daenerys and her currently calm fire-breathing dragon are at a moment of peace thanks to artist zimmay and their crafty hand. Season 4, here we come. [Deviant Art]

Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Harley Quinn, alone they're pretty dang clever, but put them together and these sirens are bringing Gotham to its knees. W. Scott Forbes

People love Man of Steel, it revived the Superman franchise and made Henry Cavill a household name. So why not let Lerms take a crack at giving him a portrait worthy of the great hall in the Fortress of Solitude. Lois will love it and you should too. [Geek-Art]

Every once in a while we just have to post a drawing that makes us say, "what kind of gold is this?" Today this gold comes in the form of Minna Sundberg's cat-filled zombie apocalypse scenario, with the cats trying to survive their undead former friends. Nice to see that one cat has their eye on the ball in all of this. [Geek Tyrant]

San Diego Comic Con 2011

*Sigh* Teaching, modeling, family life & life in general is really taking it's toll on me. I am completely and utterly exhausted. Not to mention a tangled love life and my train hit and killed a man on my way to work last week. I really and truly need a vacation and have to get away from it all. I think I'm under the delusion that I am really a Wonder Woman and have to do it all. I'm going to end up in the hospital if I don't slow down, which is something my doctor yelled at me about last year.

This year's Comic Con was a whirlwind. Traveling from the east coast to the west cost is very exhausting. Lucky enough, my gal pal Haydn Porter (the super gorgeous playboy model) and I were on the same connecting flight to Cali so we got off the plane together and shared a cab to our hotel, went shopping and had lunch on the town with a new fellow Slave Leia named Rebecca while we waited for our manager to arrive. Entertainment Weekly stopped by my room shortly after to photograph me for their feature "Slave Leia: Some Assembly Required" (which can I say, how stoked I was to be the subject of an article by this famed magazine! AWESOME!). I asked Haydn to be in on it to; they photographed my progress on becoming Slave Leia and even followed me to the convention where Haydn and I were working that night (preview night). Because of the press I get and my online following, Rebecca has nicknamed me "Celebrity Leia". LOL Check out the article here: http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20399642_20511850,00.html

On Preview Night I met the creator of the Monster High dolls, which I collect and am a massive fan of. I got to talk to him for a while and he was very nice and even took a pic of us together with his phone. The rest of the show is such a whirl wind; I posed for so many pics, attended the Slave Gathering, did interviews, met fans from Twitter and Facebook, met up with friends like artist Billy Tucci, attended a private Lucasfilm party, went to South Park Land, hung with friends and ended the trip with seeing Captain America. I wore my Catwoman costume, Belle and Lara Croft. Sadly there was no time for Wonder Woman and Supergirl although I packed them. Did lots of shopping for myself and loved ones and met super amazing cosplayer Joanie (who also made my Supergirl outfit) and Emily Ruth (we were Disney Princesses together). I also worked at the Terminal Alice booth dressed as their character Cara with my girls as two of the other characters. Made lots of new friends and posed with one of the best Lara Croft cosplayers, Vera Vanguard. Many of the Slave Leia's this year were absolute dolls.

The fans seemed more aggressive this year. I don't know why certain people think it's okay to put their hand on my ass or ask creepy questions (are you alone?) or try to start arguments with me because I'm in the middle of a telephone conversation and won't pose for a photo (boy did that guy get told off by Catwoman!). Comic Con is like a small country with no laws. There's way too many people and not enough security. I have the most problems at this show because there isn't a constant male companion at my side like there is at hometown shows. Maybe I should hire a bodyguard next year. lol Thank God for friends though. They kept me sane among the craziness. I guess I will finish out this blog by saying I was asked to return next year and probably will (I have a pretty sweet gig) and will probably take more days off before and after the show to recoup. I went back to work way too soon. Below are some of my favorite pics. Be sure to see the rest (as I slowly upload them) on my official Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/VictoriaCosplay

Cosplay Spotlight: Jonathan Carroll

Cosplay is an art form that I greatly respect and truly enjoy. Although I am a cosplayer myself, I get just as excited as every other fan girl when my eyes rests upon a cosplayer who literally look as if they stepped out of the pages of a comic book. One of my personal favorite cosplayers is Jonathan Carroll.
Not only does he cosplay two of my favorite characters (Batman and Superman) with striking detail and stunning accuracy but he's also one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of conversing with online. Jonathan proved to be every bit the southern gentlemen and granted me an interview. Many thanks to him for taking the time to give my readers and I an insight of his craft, his thoughts on the new Superman Suit for the upcoming Zack Synder film, psychical fitness and his bride-to-be (sorry ladies). Also be sure to check out his fan page: http://www.facebook.com/MonkeyOfSteelFanPage

Victoria: I have to say you were a pleasant discovery online! Your cosplay is most impressive and you're easily one of the best cosplayers I've ever seen. How long have you been cosplaying?

Jonathan: Oh gosh! You're gonna make me blush! Haha! I've been cosplaying/costuming for 11 years now... uh-oh... I just started feeling REALLY old!

Victoria: Haha! What other costumes do you own and what can we look forward to in the future?

Jonathan: I'm working on a few right now, but really, just perfecting a few of the ones I have. I want to do the new Superman costume, a set of the COG armor from Gears of War, and I'm trying to think of a few new heroes to throw into my line up for my work with Heroes Alliance.

Victoria: Tell me about your Facebook page "Building a Superhero".

Jonathan: HOORAY! A shameless plug appears! My brother and I were getting so many request from people to get workout advice as well as dietary, and one day, I just realized, it's easier for people to have a place to turn to, so they don't have to search. The page is mainly geared towards cosplayers and costumers, but has attracted the attention of a lot of those outside that realm. The entire project has become an ever changing, ever evolving thing, but in the end, we're just happy we can help people improve their health.

http://www.facebook.com/BuildingASuperhero

Victoria: What do you do personally to stay in such great shape?

Jonathan: I typically train twice a day, 6 times a week, resulting in about 4 hours a day. The split is between weight training and light cardio, as well as abdominal work. My diet is a huge part too. Typically I consume between 5,000 and 10,000 calories a day when I'm not on a lean cycle. This is just to gain more muscle mass, so when I start to cut back, I don't become too small.

Victoria: You look nearly identical to Mike Turner's Superman. Not just the costume but your face. Do people tell you that often?

Jonathan: HAHA! I hear it every now and then, but I love it every time I do. Michael Turner had a brilliant art style. One that I've tried with my own art to duplicate several times, though VERY unsuccessfully. His Superman style is my ideal goal in physique, so when I hear that compliment, it's a huge compliment to me.

Victoria: You also run a company "Supernova Costuming and Design" with your fianc e. Can you give me the details on what that's all about?

Jonathan: SuperNova Costuming and Design comes from a collaboration of both my fianc e and myself, in a joint effort to produce quality costumes for people. She handles a lot of the sewing, I handle a lot of the props (though for some things, we outsource to Wild Wood Studios), and we both do research until we feel like we know the costume backwards and forwards before we begin construction. http://www.facebook.com/supernovago

Victoria: What's it like having someone (your future wife) to cosplay with?

Jonathan: Oh, it's amazing. She's so much fun. We laugh because a lot of times, some people will drag their significant other into costuming with them, but instead, that's how we met. She was the best darn Harley Quinn I'd ever seen. In addition to being the greatest costume accessory, she's also my best friend. And there's nothing like having a great hobby with your best friend.

Victoria: Your Batman Arkham Asylum cosplay is best described as perfection. How long did it take to put that costume together?

Jonathan: Well, the first run of the suit, proved a bit... problematic. I only kept it on for a few hours during it's first tour at Dragon Con. By Mega Con it was ready to make it's reappearance. It took a bit over a year to get everything just right on it, but it's still being perfected. I'm currently working on a new belt to replace the urethane one, and my Props master, Steven Spellman of Wild Wood Studios, and I are collaborating on building a stronger set of armor for it with high impact plastic and Kevlar... ya know... just in case. But the crown of the costume has to be the cowl from Shawn Reeves of Reevz666.com fame. The cowl is just... gorgeous.

Victoria: What is your most memorable experience at a convention/show?

Jonathan: Oh gosh, that's easy. It was my proposal to Jessica Enright in the Hyatt at Dragon Con while all of our friends stood around, watching. I'll never forget it.

Victoria: That's so beautiful! What do you think of Superman's new costume in the comics and the upcoming Zack Snyder film?

Jonathan: I'm not crazy about the actor, but I'm ready to see what he can do. The suit is really nice, though I have NO idea why they used the earth 2 Superman symbol. I'm looking forward to yelling horrible things while I attempt to make it.

Victoria: That sounds like it would be an entertaining You Tube video. Haha. What conventions do you normally attend?

Jonathan: Typically, Mega Con, and Dragon Con. But in 2012, I want to make a huge circuit of cons including San Diego, Chicago, New York and yes... Metropolis.

Victoria: Any final thoughts or anything you would like to add?
Jonathan: Check out my page at http://www.facebook.com/buildingasuperhero
And remember, if you can dream it, you can be it. That's the great thing about costuming and that's the great thing about life.

Michael Clarke Duncan Dead at 54

Sad news from the world of nerdery as this long weekend comes to a close as it’s being reported tonight that actor Michael Clarke Duncan has died at the age of 54.

At 6'5″ and 300-pounds, Duncan was an unlikely movie star. He worked security for the likes of Will Smith and Jamie Foxx, and consequently had small roles on their shows (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and The Jamie Foxx Show respectively). After several turns playing an inmate or bouncer, Duncan got his big break in 1998 as one of the gang in the killer asteroid film Armageddon. The next year Duncan’s star rose further when he was cast as John Coffey in Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King’s The Green Mile, for which Duncan won an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Over the next 14 years, Duncan stayed incredibly busy, appearing in many films that appealed to the nerdy at heart. Films including: Planet of the Apes, The Scorpion King, Sin City and The Island. He was also cast as The Kingpin in Daredevil, which, despite the outcome of that movie, was a brazen and unexpected choice given the character’s origin as a white man. Duncan was also an accomplished voice actor for movies, TV and video games, including the Kung Fu Panda movies and last year’s Green Lantern. Most recently, Duncan was one of the main characters on the FOX series The Finder, a spin-off of Bones.

Actor Duncan’s death this morning in a Los Angeles hospital, followed weeks of after a July 13 heart attack that put him in intensive care. Although Duncan had since left intensive care, he was never again well enough to be discharged from the hospital. Duncan is survived by his fiance, The Apprentice star Omarosa Manigault.

The thoughts and prayers of nerds everywhere, and the Nerd Bastards’ as well, go out to Duncan’s friends and families tonight.

REVIEW/RECAP: ‘Doctor Who’ Episode 7.1 – “Asylum of the Daleks”

A key reason why I’m such a stalwart fan of the Moffat era of Doctor Who (and do, in fact, prefer it to the Davies era, though David Tennant is still my Doctor) is its ability to constantly upset any sense of a comfort zone we might get as viewers. We’re now in our third year of Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor and his companions, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), and despite the fact that we’re now watching the longest continuous pairing of Doctor and Companion(s) in the history of the revived series, nothing about this show ever feels safe. The balance is constantly upset, and that element of uncertainty is even more prevalent now that we know the Ponds are about to make their exit in an as-yet-unknown way. With “Asylum of the Daleks,” Steven Moffat kicked off his third series as Doctor Who showrunner up to all his tricks, throwing plenty of curves into the story, putting the Ponds on already-shaky ground and introducing us to a new face (sort of).

NOTE: I will keep the first portion of this review as spoiler-free as possible, but near the end I’ll want to talk a bit about some major plot points, so there will be a SPOILER ALERT hitting you later on. Watch for it if you don’t want to know about something you haven’t seen.

A message from a mysterious woman ends in a trap for The Doctor, and he suddenly finds himself surrounded by the Parliament of the Daleks alongside Amy and Rory (who aren’t having the best time as man and wife at the moment. But this time, it’s not about the Daleks fighting to exterminate their old enemy (at least, no yet). This time, the Daleks have a mission for The Doctor: visit a legendary planet-sized asylum filled with crazy Daleks (yes, there are things even the Daleks consider to be unreasonable) and deactivate a force field so the Dalek parliament can purge the asylum of all those crazy exterminators. Of course, if he succeeds, The Doctor will probably be killed too, but at the moment he doesn’t have much of a choice.

On the asylum planet, the Doctor finds his two friends squabbling, a problem that seems nearly impossible to solve, and a mysterious woman stranded in a crashed spaceship communicating with him through the Dalek security system (because, apparently, she’s a genius). Oh, and the Daleks have a new trick: they can put themselves in human bodies.

Despite often inventing his own new adversaries for the Doctor, Moffat has said more than once that the Daleks have always been his favorite. But, as with the last Dalek stories he showed us, he’s not interested in exhibiting them in the form we’re used to. Odd as it might seem, there’s an element of raw, painful emotion to these creatures, and here it’s put front and center. Moffat shows us a world where Daleks, a species dominated by a searing hate for things that aren’t like them, can in fact become some overwhelmed by that emotion that even they go crazy. That’s intriguing in itself, but by the end of this episode Moffat has taken the mentally unstable Dalek conceit much, much further, and the result is a deep new layer in Who mythology that’s likely to keep resonating for a long time.

Moffat also shows us a new layer of Amy and Rory that few people could have expected: the unhappy one. Yes, we’ve seen them bicker for two years, but it’s not the same this time. It’s a deeper wound, one that could have big implications for their exit later, and that’s not even taking into account how this affects The Doctor. When these two elements – Amy and Rory and the crazy Daleks – combine, we get an episode that’s equal parts breakneck, plot-heavy joyride and deep-cutting, mythos-altering storytelling.

For me, “Asylum of the Daleks” actually managed to be a better season premiere than last year’s “The Impossible Astronaut” (an episode I really loved), not just because it returned the Daleks to the forefront, but because it set up something bigger than “Will the Doctor die?” which is a question that has a very obvious answer. Something big is happening here that, though we only have a few episodes to explore, could dig into the Doctor’s inner darkness more than Moffat ever has before, and that’s saying something.

Now comes the part where we talk SPOILERS. So if you haven’t seen the episode yet, look away now.

Seriously, I’m not holding anything back past this point, so if you don’t want to know things….

Still here? OK

So, obviously the first thing we have to talk about is the appearance of Jenna-Louise Coleman, the Doctor’s new Companion, a good while before most people expected her to show (a lot of people, including me, were guessing Christmas special). And not only did she show up, but she had a big role to play in this story. It’s interesting for several reasons, but the thing that occurred to me first is that we usually don’t see the new Companion until the old one(s) has gone. Usually the Doctor simply happens upon his new friends in the midst of an adventure, but Moffat promised us something different here, and we definitely got it. And then the big bombshell came: Oswin (Coleman’s character) is only formerly human. She’s been converted into a Dalek, but she’s still holding on to her human identity. So, as it turns out, she’s the craziest Dalek of them all. But she made an impression on The Doctor. Unlike some previous companions, she’s not intimidated by him or blown away by his power (she’s a bit like Donna in that respect). She can hang with him verbally, she’s sassy and smart and funny and she’s definitely got some kind of edge going on. But how will Moffat work around the whole Dalek thing? Time will tell.

Then, there’s the news that Amy and Rory are on the verge of divorce when we first rejoin them, only to be reunited after a very poignant resolution of their issues by episode’s end. That’s all well and good, but really look at what happened there. The big implication is that they probably would never have reconciled had it not been for The Doctor. Last season was all about how The Doctor hurts the ones he loves, even if he doesn’t mean to. Will this year be about the tragedy of Amy and Rory’s dependence on The Doctor? It certainly seems to be skewing that way, and if that’s really the case it could be the seed of their downfall.

Touhou Project: Yakumo Yukari

touhou project cosplay - yakumo yukari from japan comiket 82

Known as the Youkai of Boundaries, Yakumo Yukari was first introduced in Touhou Project: Perfect Cherry Blossom as the sleepy mistress of Yakumo Ran. She lives a very youkai way of life and tends to sleep all day, living for the enjoyment of life. Although she rarely leaves her house, she is quite well-connected, acquainted with the most powerful of youkai as well as those who have anything to do with the Hakurei border or outside Gensokyo.

Another cute cosplayer from Japan Comiket 82! I have to say, every year there's always a lot of cosplayers from Touhou in Comiket. Maybe I should check it out for myself. Thanks again to 2chmod for sending this in!

Life is Complete: Manimal Movie Now in the Works

Somewhere between Battlestar Galactica and One West Waikiki, prolific TV producer Glen A. Larson co-created a series called Manimal, and because everything old is exploitable, we will soon be enjoying a Manimal movie on big screens everywhere.

It was the fall of 1983, Reagan was President of a crime plagued America and only one man could cut through the bureaucratic red tape was a man, who could become an animal… A Manimal! The series followed Dr. Jonathan Chase (Simon MacCorkindale), a good looking rich bastard who could shape shift into an animal, usually a hawk or a panther, and used it to fight crime alongside a pair of police officers.

In case that explanation went over your head, here’s the oh, so 80s opening sequence that preceded every episode of Manimal.

Hard to believe NBC scheduled this beauty up against Dallas Friday nights, huh?

Well, apparently Larson is going to double down on Manimal as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that he’s taking a position as producer on a big budget, big screen Hollywood remake of Manimal. Sadly, MacCorkindale died in 2010 so he won’t be able to be a part of the project, but let the casting process begin! Who might be able to fill the shoes, and paws and claws of Dr. Jonathan Chase? My money’s on Christian Bale because, well, that would be awesome.

Obviously, we’ll keep you posted with news as it develops.
