Men Dressed As Batman And Captain America Rescued a Cat From a House Fire [Video]

Dressing up like superheroes can lead to real life heroism. John Buckland and Troy Marcum were having an "ordinary" day. They were dressed like Batman and Captain America, and they were participating in a children's event at an American Legion Post and representing Heroes 4 Higher. Buckland owns the organization and uses it to teach positive lessons to children through being heroes.

On their way home from the event, Batman and Captain America spotted smoke coming from a residence and jumped into action to see if anyone was trapped inside. It's important to note that Buckland - Batman - is a former firefighter so that he is at least trained in responding to these situations. They didn't find any humans, but they were able to rescue a cat that had passed out. Batman resuscitated the feline, and everyone lived to tell the tale.

I can't imagine what it would have been like to witness the rescue, and goodness only knows what was going through the cat's head.

Archaeologists Discover Ancient Egyptians Made Beads From Meteorites

Call the guy from Ancient Aliens! He's going to love this. Archaeologists recently confirmed that 5,000 year old Egyptian beads were made from pieces of meteorite. They are the oldest objects made in iron that we have discovered so far, and they were excavated in 1911. The beads currently reside in the Petrie Museum in London, and I imagine they'll be seeing an increase in traffic soon.

The finding was just announced in the Journal of Archaeological Science this week. Professor Thilo Rehren worked with a team to scan the beads with netro and gamma-ray beams that revealed the meteorite origin as well as how they were made. He states:

"The shape of the beads was obtained by smithing and rolling, most likely involving multiple cycles of hammering, and not by the traditional stone-working techniques such as carving or drilling which were used for the other beads found in the same tomb."

It's fascinating and humbling.

Kneel Before Doom! (And Empty the Register)

I guess the eurozone crisis has hit Latveria particularly hard since Doctor Doom has apparently resorted to knocking over convenience stores to pay the bills.

If you're in the Richmond, VA area, be on the look out for the dictator, who, with one of his associates, knocked over a grocery store in the 3000 block of Stony Point Road on Friday night. Doctor Doom walked into the store around 11 pm, having traded in his customary suit of armor and green tunic and cape for a green hoodie and some runners, and ordered the cashier at gunpoint top open the cash register. Doom and a man wearing a orange and brown with a skull and bones design and a nondescript black mask ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No magic? No Doombots? No death rays? Wow, Doom's really come down in the world. Citizens with any information on the current whereabouts of Doom and his cohort are asked to police, or call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000. You can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word "ITip" followed by your tip. Obviously, the Richmond police would appreciate it if those tips didn't come from your comic collection.
