Jake The Dog Makes For a Beautiful Engagement Ring

ring1

There is just no end to the cool geeky engagement rings people have been making lately. This one was designed by comic creator Josh Adams who was inspired by this R2-D2 design to come up with something special for his proposal to girlfriend Saori. Josh worked with the same artist behind the R2-D2 ring, Paul Bierker to turn Jake from Adventure Time into a symbol of true love.

The ring was even spotted by Adventure Time creator Pendelton Ward who commented on its coolness on his twitter feed:

@joshadams : 0 holy cow that's amazing

- Pendleton Ward (@buenothebear) August 19, 2013

What's more, Josh is having matching wedding bands made (with his ring being Jake's butt) and they plan to exchange vows in New York City during New York Comic-Con. I know, the level of geekery is nearly unbeatable.

Archaeologists Discover Ancient Egyptians Made Beads From Meteorites

space beads 1

Call the guy from Ancient Aliens! He's going to love this. Archaeologists recently confirmed that 5,000 year old Egyptian beads were made from pieces of meteorite. They are the oldest objects made in iron that we have discovered so far, and they were excavated in 1911. The beads currently reside in the Petrie Museum in London, and I imagine they'll be seeing an increase in traffic soon.

The finding was just announced in the Journal of Archaeological Science this week. Professor Thilo Rehren worked with a team to scan the beads with netro and gamma-ray beams that revealed the meteorite origin as well as how they were made. He states:

"The shape of the beads was obtained by smithing and rolling, most likely involving multiple cycles of hammering, and not by the traditional stone-working techniques such as carving or drilling which were used for the other beads found in the same tomb."

It's fascinating and humbling.

This Legend of Zelda Ear Bend Holds The Ocarina Of Time

zelda ear bend

Crafty geeks always seem to make the most fun and interesting jewelry. In this case, it's Etsy's Guilty Geeks who definitely have a knack for wire jewelry design.

This piece is called The Legend of Zelda's Wise Ear Bend with Hanging Spiritual Stones and Triforce. It's green colored wire adorned with The Ocarina of Time's three spiritual stones: Kokiri's Emerald, Goron's Ruby, and the Zora Sapphire.

Per the designer, "This magical Ear Bend is meant to open the door of time, so it's time to embrace our love for Zelda while being completely unique!"

Check out an additional image of it being worn after the break.

A Stunning Batman Engagement Ring

bat wedding ring

If you're a geek and you want a ring that's precious in more ways than one, this 14K white gold wedding ring with Batman symbols and diamond accents is definitely one way to go.

It was made by jewelry designer Takayas Mizuno and, while his work averages in the $2600 range, it's all custom made and designed just for you.

His bio on Custom Made notes that "at the heart of each Takayas creation is a desire for each piece to be treasured over generations" and it definitely seems he's more than happy to work with all sorts of people to create a wedding ring that's just perfect for the occasion.

The beautiful thing about his work is just how varied it is. .50 ct Hello Kitty rings share space with more standard rings and pendants and an 18ct South Sea pearl ring that looks like something a mermaid princess would wear.

Check out more pictures of his work after the break.

The Cutest Cameos Feature Wookiees

It’s a good thing that Wookiees don’t actually exist – I’d just want to hug them all time. Just look at this Chewbacca inspired cameo by Rapscallion Design! The necklace is painfully adorable, and I want one just so I can have a tiny Wookiee pal. It’s sculpted from polymer clay and takes about 1-2 weeks to make.

D10 Engagement Ring

I have to say that nerdy engagement rings that symbolize someone’s love for a game, movie, or book make me happy. I think it’s cool when anything has that sort of impact on someone; it’s similar to someone getting a tattoo from his or her favorite fandom.

DeviantArt member dragonslorefury and her partner are serious role players, so she designed this D10 ring and had her father make it. She wanted it to be unique, and it definitely is! The D10 can even be removed and placed with a different stone if she likes.
