Today marked the first teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek Into Darkness hitting the Internet and as always there’s a bunch of twists thrown in. The Japanese version of the teaser trailer included 15 seconds of footage at the end that might throw Star Trek fans for a loop.

First off check out the teaser trailer’s last 15 seconds:
What do you think? Is that what I think it is? Fans have been pitching ideas about what villain Benedict Cumberbatch is playing, Khan or Gary Mitchell? There’s lots of hint and misdirection in this teaser trailer.
Lets start with Alice Eve‘s character who has not been named as of yet. The look is very similar to the TOS character Elizabeth Dehner (Played by Sally Kellerman) . If the character name was known that would reveal the storyline is centered around Gary Mitchell.
The problem is that the character could also easily be a younger Carol Marcus (Bibi Besch), Kirk’s first love from The Wrath of Khan. I’m still leaning toward the Gary Mitchell storyline though.
There is also this scene seen at the end of the Japanese version of the teaser trailer.
OK, this is clearly a Khan thing, we see a ship in danger of being destroyed, then this hand touching. Spock’s death was a major part of the Khan storyline, but take a closer look. From this angle it looks like Spock, in blue uniform, is making the Vulcan salute when reaching to touch the glass, look closely at the color of the shirt of the mystery person, who looks injured, on the other side of the glass. It looks like the green that Kirk would sometimes wear in TOS.
Could the big twist be Kirk’s death? or could it just be a rehash of Spock’s death? What do you think? Of course none of this is clear because it’s only a teaser trailer and although we see things, you never see the markings on the ship, or the face of who is hurt, or hear the names, etc . . . etc . . . etc . . .
