THE JOKER From Dark Knight Batman Movie ( Heath Ledger ) Life-Size Paper-Mache Sculpture

On a personal level I really love ART in just about all of it's forms, especially artwork made by children. It just has a very nice charm about it. Well, a friend to the Bat-Blog, named Adrian, recently went to an exhibit of "Little Kid's Superhero Art" & he got some amazing photos to share. Adrian wrote, "I went to a local mall last night to see some 3-dimensional life-size paper-mache sculptures. They were created by some 7th & 8th grade students of the Holten-Richmond Middle School of Danvers, MA. My girlfriend's cousins, who are in the 8th grade class, helped on a sculpture." WOW! These HUGE sculptures are really super-great! Because the Bat-Blog is ALL about Batman I am sort of showcasing the one of the Joker. It's the Heath Ledger version from the Dark Knight Batman movie ( which is kinda weird for little kids to be making, ha ha ) but they did a wonderful job on this figure! He looks awesome! There were also some pieces, equally as great, that focused on Marvel Comic Book characters. They made Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Ironman, & Dr. Octopus! All the artwork here is really special & I wanna congratulate all the children on a job very well done! Also, I wanna thank Adrian for the use of these pics. Thank you, they're very cool!

Chris Hemsworth And Conan Team Up To Diss Thor’s ‘Stumpy Mallet’

Chris Hemsworth brought the Marvel promotion juggernaut to 'Conan' to promote 'Thor: The Dark World' and may have inadvertently angered numerous fan boys in the process by dissing Thor's magical hammer.

"It's kinda ridiculous isn't it...I'll have the really large hammer head with the short stumpy shaft thing."

And to think I was sold on you playing one of my favorite heroes, you turncoat!

It was literally just the other day that I watched Stan Lee talk about Thor's trusty hammer and how it gives him all of these powers, including flight. And I was sold, thinking to myself about how amazing it is, the damage it can do and am I too old to buy one at the store.

Now all I can think about is a "short stumpy shaft." So congrats on the movie, Hemsworth. I hope it fails. You've lost me forever! Where's my message board!?

Kevin Feige on ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ & Loki’s Future in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe

Easily one of the biggest "WOW" moments of this year's San Diego Comic Con was the official title announcement for The Avenger's sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron. And since then we've been told repeatedly they're only borrowing the title, not the Ultron storyline, from the comics. Which, I'll admit, is completely misleading, but if the success of Marvel's Phase 1 has proven anything it's have faith in Kevin Feige.

Empire caught up with Feige during the Con and asked him how Joss Whedon and he came to decide upon this title,

We came up with a few titles, but every month a new comic book appeared, and that's a great title. Age Of Ultron is a great title. We had a few other 'Of Ultrons', but that was the best one. So we're borrowing that title, but taking storylines from decades of Avengers storylines

I'm still confused, but if "Ultron" was always in the working title he must play a significant role, right? Otherwise, what the hell is "Ultron" referring to if not the robot created by Hank Pym, a.k.a. Ant-Man?

In other Marvel news, Feige also discussed the future of Loki Laufeyson in the franchise, saying, "We think Loki could be the big bad for us, for a long time." Early reports have said Loki won't appear in Age of Ultron - but good news Hiddlestoners! - Feige doesn't implicitly confirm or deny this. And really, after Tom Hiddleston's show-stopping appearance as Loki in Hall H last Saturday, why wouldn't you try and work this guy into every Marvel movie?

Pull List: Comics Coming Out 11/21/12

What will we have to be thankful for in the comics department today? Quite a lot, actually.

• DC has the 52 Omnibus and a collection of Batman/Judge Dredd crossovers, which are actually pretty hard to find, so this hardcover is quite welcome.
• Marvel launches Indestructible Hulk and Captain America, as well as wrapping up the surprisingly entertaining crossover Minimum Carnage. It’s a good day to be a Mark Waid or a Rick Remender fan.
• Image launches Clone, about a man who discovers he is one and that all of his fellow clones are after his pregnant wife, and the miniseries Comeback, which is basically Freejack in reverse; people pulled out of time at the last second to save them. There’s also more Revival and a new Walking Dead trade.
• Dark Horse has a new Baltimore one-shot and launches Number 13, a story about an amnesiac child with lasers, with a zero issue.
• IDW wraps up their latest Rocketeer miniseries, and launches the mini Adventures of Augusta Wind, an all-ages fantasy by J.M DeMatteis that reads a lot like “Alice on Infinite Earths”, launches their new Judge Dredd ongoing, and finally has a second issue of Frankenstein: Alive, Alive!
• And Boom! has more Bravest Warriors and launches Supurbia as an ongoing.

An “Inkling” That Star Wars May Soon Been Coming to ABC

This week is the annual Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles, it's an opportunity for networks and cable channels to show off their wares for the coming fall TV season. ABC is one of the last stops, but it is one of the biggest because they have one of the biggest new shows of the year. Of course, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is the by-product of Disney's acquisition of Marvel Studios, and you all might recall that Disney made another big acquisition nearly a year ago...

And yes, the question came up during TCA about whether or not we might see a Star Wars series on the alphabet network sometime in the near future. ABC entertainment president Paul Lee raised the possibility himself back during the winter tour in January, and this past Sunday, according to Reuters, Lee had something to add. "We've started conversations with them," Lee said. "I have an inkling in my mind, but they have a lot on their plate."

True enough, Lucasfilm is said to be working on a Star Wars film for every year following the 2015 release of Star Wars Episode VII, so how on earth can they squeeze in full-blown production on a TV series as well? Still, Lee's use of the phrase "inkling" is interesting, suggesting that there's something in the works, even if it is just the discussion phase. Or perhaps some people are trying to get the long-in-the-works Star Wars: Underworld series going, that might be a treat. Time will tell, I guess.

New ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV Promos & Will Loki Make an Appearance?

Joss Whedon's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is in the home stretch before the series September 24th premiere and we're starting to get that last burst of marketing to amp up interest in the new show. This time around, we've got two new television promos with Clark Gregg introducing himself and the new agent characters that make up his team that's not a team, watch the second promo below and you'll see what I'm talking about.

The other thing many fans are clamoring to know is what characters from the movie universe might be making appearances on the new TV series. Tom Hiddleston, who plays a magnificent Loki in The Avengers and Thor movies (and soon Thor 2, for which there's a new kick ass trailer!) was recently asked if he was open to appearing on the small screen.

It would be something that would depend upon script and story but yeah, of course, I've spoken to him (Whedon) about it. I saw him down in San Diego. I hear it's good fun.

Sounds like Loki is willing and able to make some mischief for those new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we can only hope it doesn't take more than one season to bring him in. We already have another one of The Avengers alum Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) making an appearance in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot. As for some of the other big names we'd love to see make an appearance: Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson... we'll just have to hope and wait. You can be sure that the question will come up whenever those actors get interviewed, especially if the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show takes off like we all expect it to.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Is Planned Out Through 2021

At this rate they're all getting a movie.

Wired recently wrote an article on the guy who makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe happen, Kevin Feige. He was there when it first started, he's the one laying the roadmap... and he let slip an interesting nugget during the interview.

The whole article is actually fairly fascinating; Feige comes off like a nerd livin' the dream. But for our purposes, the relevant item is this:

"I could arguably say what we're planning for the year 2021," Feige told WIRED. "Will that happen? I don't know. But what we planned for 2015 in 2006 is happening."

This raises the question of what his plan is, in the first place. We know sequels to Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers are on the way, and Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man are in the works. And that there are three unnamed films on the way for 2016 and 2017. But man, that's a tantalizing hint.

We know what a few of these movies will be: Black Panther was heavily hinted at a while back and Doctor Strange has been in development for a while as well. But Marvel has also been pretty consistent, putting out two movies a year, every year, since 2011. 2014 and 2015 are holding to the same pattern.

So if that holds, there are another eight movies Marvel is thinking about making, and they can't all be sequels. Let the speculation begin!

Check Out The Official Logo For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′

Although The Amazing Spider-Man 2 isn't hitting theaters until May 2014, it looks like marketing is already starting to pimp out the film.

A meetup has been put together by tumblr for this Friday night for fans. No details have been given aside from the time and location and "basic pizza" written on the invitation. But the more interesting part of it all is that it's our first look at the official Spidey logo for this film.

Stan Lee Lives! Gets a Pacemaker

Last week, our nerd alarms went into full alert, when word broke out that the all-father of comics Stan Lee had to cancel all convention appearances due to “serious circumstances”. Naturally, we assumed the worst. Was our friendly neighborhood “Stan the Man” meeting the end of his glorious and illustrious life? No. Not possible. Legends never die, right?

Worry not true believers. Stan Lee is doing A-ok!

Stan Lee released a statement to his fans letting them know why he had to cancel his appearances, and assured that he would be around for another 90-years to come:

Attention, Troops!

This is a dispatch sent from your beloved Generalissimo, directly from the center of Hollywood's combat zone!

Now hear this! Your leader hath not deserted thee! In an effort to be more like my fellow Avenger, Tony Stark, I have had an electronic pace-maker placed near my heart to insure that I'll be able to lead thee for another 90 years.

First Stewart & McKellen, Now Jackman Circling ‘Days of Future Past’?

They say that Wolverine is the best at what he does, and it seems that what Hugh Jackman is best at is playing Wolverine.

Jackman, who is currently in the midst of some awards consideration for his portrayal of the persecuted Jean Valjean in the upcoming screen adaptation of the long-running stage musical Les Miserables, is in talks with the producers of X-Men: Days of Future Past to reprise the popular role of the feral mutant Wolverine in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As previously announced this week, both Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen have joined the cast of Bryan Singer’s latest X-Men opus. The accomplished thespians, who appeared as Professor X and Magneto respectively in the first three X-Men movies, will join stars of the recent prequel X-Men: First Class - James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult – in the new X-Men film. The film, which is based on the classic X-Men comic book story of the same name, will combine casts and characters across many, various X-films covering the past, present and future of Marvel’s Merry Mutants.

Of course, Jackman hasn’t strayed too far from Wolverine, who he first played in X-Men in 2000, which was followed by X2 in 2003, and X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006. Jackman appeared in the solo adventure X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, and cameoed last year in First Class in a scene with McAvoy and Fassbender. Jackman recently wrapped up the sequel The Wolverine, his second solo film as the character, which is due for release next summer.

Now naturally, getting Jackman to appear in any X-Men project is a no-brainer, but Wolverine plays a pretty significant part in the comic book story. The question is, will he have an equally compelling part in this movie? And does this bode well for a coming announcement that Ellen Page will appear in the film as Kitty Pride? I think this project gets more and more interesting, I just hope that they don’t show all their cards before the film’s release and save at least a couple of surprises.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be in theaters everywhere on July 18, 2014.

SHIELD TV Pilot A Wrap

That’s the word from Maurissa Tancharoen, co-showrunner along with husband Jed Whedon. Marvel’s highly anticipated television series began filming in January, and is expected to be picked up by ABC. Avengers director and Nerd Potentate Joss Whedon co-wrote and directed the pilot, which stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Tain De Caestecker, and Brett Dalton.

S.H.I.E.L.D. is probably the only thing being discussed in Nerddom even half as much as Star Wars: Episode VII…..and unlike that controversial production, we won’t have to wait two years to see if S.H.I.E.L.D. lives up to the hype.

My money is on unqualified success, personally. S.H.I.E.L.D. is ideal for a TV series: Its structure as a quasi-military law enforcement/intelligence agency makes it easy for non-comic readers to connect to, and there’s lots of room for new and interesting characters.

Plus….we get Agent Coulson (well…Clark Gregg, at the very least) back from Joss Whedon’s “Altar of Likeable Character Sacrifice”–that’s enough for me.

Toy Fair 2013: Man of Steel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Masters of The Universe, Star Wars, and Much, Much MOAR!

Nerd action figure enthusiasts, like myself, are privileged to buy just about every pop culture character that ever was/is. Seriously, pretty much every iconic character from film, TV, video games and more have spawned little plastic figures honoring their image. I’m not complaining. No, I’m thrilled! I am, though, running out of shelf space. That, and my wallet and fiancee are not so understanding.

Money, storage and g/f problems be damned, because, thanks to the New York International Toy Fair (which happened this weekend), 2013 is looking like another killer year for plastics.

Toy Fair 2013 showcased all types of toys to choose from, classic toys from yesteryear, new movie tie-in toys, and toys for all ages, brought forth from the wacky minds of the toy masters at Mattel, Lego, Hasbro and many, many more. These are the products that will be hitting store shelves everywhere all year long that may flop, or become the hottest must have toy for Christmas.

‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Nabs Emily VanCamp for Female Lead

Deadline has the exclusive report naming Revenge‘s Emily VanCamp as the female lead joining Chris Evans for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. We don’t know for sure who’ll she be playing but there’s a very good chance it’s Sharon Carter, niece of Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell in The First Avenger), and of course, new love interest for Cap. Which to me is weird, but I bet it’s a tough dating scene for someone once frozen and misplaced in time.

This news also comes with revelation that Evans has yet to receive his script for The Winter Soldier. Say what? The film is supposed to release on April 4th, 2014, so the news Evans hasn’t seen a finished script is surprising. He revealed this on the latest Doug Loves Movies podcast,

I don’t have a script yet. We start shooting in two months and they haven’t given me a script. That’s how Marvel works. Different directors, it’s the Russo brothers. It makes perfect sense, Community, S.H.I.E.L.D. superhero action movie [Ed Note: Evans is joking here]

Now this is a Sailor Moon that’s seen some shit, not the Sailor Moon that uses love to save the day. We’ve seen the characters of Street Fighter look the same twenty-five years, even the 1994 movie had them looking the same. So artist Filip Acovic brought it upon themselves to give the famous fighters a bit more realism then Jean-Claude Van Damme could handle, featuring Guile, Zangief, Balrog, Blanka and Sagat in a more realistic setting. Sagat does look like Filip just redrew Wes Studi, which could be weird if he’s never seen the movie. [Geek Tyrant]

You know you’ve got gold when Joss Whedon has seen this and featured it on his Facebook page, which is exactly what happened to Ry-Spirit. An animal take on the famous comic book characters, you can’t help but grin at Thor flying through the air with his tongue sticking out. Still wouldn’t mess with the Hulk cat, a scratched sofa would be the least of our worries. [Deviant Art]

Ken Haeser didn’t just draw one X-Men/Muppets cover -he drew six, each featuring a different Muppet. Hit the link to see the Wolverine/Animal mash-up cover, I would pay good money to see that series get made for kids. [A Godly Servant]

Troy and Abed may have made their fictional morning show popular, but Star Trek‘s Data and Geordi were doing it before it was cool. A drawing by Halifax, Nova Scotia artist Faith Hicks, this became so popular that there are now several Tumblr related pages on the idea and with the holodeck on ship they could have been playing Inspector Spacetime too. Spider-Man has always had some pretty awesome comic book battles, you don’t go 50 years in the comic book industry with having at least one or two at some point. So Francesco Mattina, an artist who’s done several covers for Marvel, put together the wicked one on one fight between Spider-Man and the proper, CG free, Lizard and judging by the destruction they’ve been at it for a while, two to three issues tops. Check Out the First “Poster” for ‘Thor: The Dark World’

With the release of Thor: The Dark World almost a year from now and filming still underway, you wouldn’t expect to see an actual poster anytime soon. Sure, there’s the official typography for the film, above, that was first seen when the title was announced but that’s not really a poster. This is a poster,

Almost, or as artist Olly Moss tweets it,

This won’t be the final poster or even a teaser poster released for the film, but rather it’s a special poster made especially for the cast and crew which they’ll receive when production ends. Moss created a similar poster for the end of production on Thor, you can see it, along with more of his fabulous art, on his website.
