Hey Bat-Fans, Remember awhile back we posted a few shots of a cool manikin our friend Leon got to display his Custom Adam West Batman Costume? Well, it looks like he extended that project & decided to paint a giant-size Wall Mural has a backdrop! Oh man, it's really cool & they did a great job on it. Basically they used a scene from the animated opening credits of the Classic 1966 TV Series. It's the graphics of Gotham City with the Bat-Signal in the sky. How cool is that!! Here's a few "before, during, & after" shots. Just check out the pics showing it completed, it's great!! Now, Leon has an even cooler Bat-Cave! This is something I wish I had the space for ( Yes, I'm Jealous! Thanks to Leon & Family for sending the fun pics )
OK, here's sort of a sad story but with a happy ending. Shown here are 3 photos of an excellent Batman Art Bust Statue ( Large 1:2 Scale ). But many of you who are familiar with this piece, made by DC Direct, is gonna say, "Hey, the colors are all wacky!" Ha Ha! Well, this Bat-Statue is owned by our friend Dallas & he had to have it both restored & repainted. Why? Because his small Son accidentally knocked this thing off a table & broke it in a few places leaving obvious damage. The nose was now gone & the cowl had broken areas. He had a friend fix it for him & since it was going to need to be repainted they decided to make it the traditional blue instead of the original black color. WOW! The statue now looks really great! Dallas' friend did a great job on it. The "blue" was an interesting choice & sort of reminds me of the older Silver Age Batman...very cool! ( Thanks to Dallas for sending us the cool pics ).
BAT-MITE! OK, I just saw this painting the other night & I have to sort of show it off...mainly because it's done by done by my good buddy Javier Hernandez and it's pretty cool. He did it as a donation for the Shel Dorf Artist Fund. Shel Dorf recently died & he was responsible for creating the San Diego Comic Con some 40 years ago. Now, you might have heard of Javier before. He does an indy comic book called "El Muerto", it's cool. Check out his website, right HERE!
I was a little kid back in the 1970's so much of the Batman Toys and Collectibles from that era have a deep nostalgia for me. It's just that I remember actually playing with them, ha! So, here's a nice assortment of groovy 70's items!
First up is a BATMAN TRU-DIMENSION 3-D Action Picture Kit 1976. Basically this was like a paint by numbers kit, except the "canvas" was 4 layers of clear plastic. You painted them sort of like the way an Animation Artist would paint a cartoon Cel, there were designs in black outline & you would fill-in the color by painting it's back side. Then when you flipped it around it was complete. Each piece had just a few different elements of one total picture. The 4 sheets of plastic were then put in a frame with each piece slightly separated & layered. The end result was a 3-D picture.
Then, here's something you don't see a lot nowadays. This is a Fanzine Magazine, COMIC ZINE #1, from Oct 1971. I'm totally digging the Golden Age artwork on the cover here! These are usually pretty hard to find because they were so limited & usually distributed regionally. Like, only sold in certain areas.
Next up, is an extremely SUPER-RARE item! This is a Batman Long-Sleeve T-Shirt made by a Children's Clothing Company called "Rob Roy". The design on the front is made with artwork "borrowed" from Neal Adams. This example still has it's original Department Store Hang Tag! It was made around 1974 and very hard to find.
Last, but not least, is this 1977 BATMAN STAMP 'N PRINT SET made by Ahi Brand ( Azrak-Hamway Int'l Inc ). This is one of those cheesy toys you would see at 7-Eleven or you might remember begging your Mom for this at a Grocery Store, ha! I totally love the vintage graphics. It's also cool that it contained a lot of Super-Villain character Rubber Stamps.
OK, I was surfing the web the other night and came across this wonderful painting by an Artist named Mark Romanoski. It features the JOKER and also have a few "Batman" elements. Now, most readers will recognize that this as a parody of a very famous Norman Rockwell Painting. It's extremely iconic and I think it was titled "Triple Self Portrait" or something like that. I've always loved it. Anyways, Mark Romanoski, did an amazing job. The Joker looks great & the humor of the piece is sort of creepy.
