Uh Oh. Is Webb Opening Door to Venom for ‘Amazing’ Films

The Amazing Spider-Man

COME-ON! haven’t we already proved that that 90s relic has no place in the Spider-Man cinematic universe?

Well make of this what you will, but amongst the photos director Marc Webb has been tweeting out this week from the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is this, on the surface, ambiguous pic.

It’s a locker! So what, right? How about we give it a wider context. Like this panel from the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book.

This is a scene from the Ultimate Spidey storyline that introduced Venom into the Ultimate universe. The back story there was that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock’s fathers were experimenting on a cancer cure, a black goo substance that enveloped the patient in order to treat them. The experiment, instead, was successful in creating Venom, a symbiotic life-form that has to feed on organic tissue to survive.

So there’s a tremendous similarity here, right? Is Webb trying to say that Venom is coming soon? Maybe at the end of Amazing 2 or setting up the villain for Amazing 3.

Venom has previously appeared in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man 3 where the filmmakers stayed close to his traditional comic book origins of being an alien from outer space. Of course, a lot of people credit the awfulness of Spider-Man 3 to Venom in many ways, but the continuing, and paradoxical, popularity of the character will likely keep him in the bullpen from any Spider-Man related projects.

What do you Bastards think? Is this Twit Pic a sign of things to come?
