‘Big Ass Spider!’ Is The Sensitive Drama It Sounds Like

It’s hard not to have an affection for giant insect movies. Granted, we’re not generally talking classics of film here, but then again, you don’t show up to a burger joint and complain about the lack of foie gras on the menu. And ‘Big Ass Spider!’ looks like one tasty burger.

Here’s the trailer, in all its cheesy glory:

In case you hadn’t guessed, it’s a story of a man and a spider trying to reconcile their forbidden love.

OK, OK, so it looks deliberately campy, but the movie itself is clearly shooting for a Tremors type vibe. Mike Mendez, the director, has a long career directing horror movies, and he’s also an experienced editor.

And if nothing else, seeing LA get destroyed by a giant alien spider is always a good time, especially in a movie where Satan has command of the military and our last hope is Eric from Alias.

Boy And Girl Meet In Person For the First Time, Girl Lets Boy Tattoo His Name On Her Face

Hey, I just met you and this is crazy, but can I tattoo my name on your face?

I bet Ruslan Toumaniantz wasn’t expecting to get permission to lay down ink on his girlfriend Lesya’s face less than 24 hours after first meeting her in person. Because well, why would you? But if you’re Lesya, you do it for love. The duo met in a chat room, fell in love, and met in person in Moscow. Less than a day later, Ruslan – a tattoo artist – inked her face. Lesya sees it as a sign of her commitment (they are now engaged).

It’s fortunate that she sees it that way because the tattoo isn’t small and concealable. As you can see in the above photo, it covers the whole bottom half of her face. It’s a bit aggressive. Besides the visual impact, I would guess that getting so much ink had to hurt. A lot.

‘Their plans for a life together include her learning to tattoo while she also gets the full-body ink that she's always dreamed of and of course a family,’ said a friend of Toumaniantz.
He added: ‘I know that there are people who are terrified that Lesya has made a rash decision that she'll regret horribly, but sometimes the best decisions are the ones you make in an instant with your heart rather than the ones long-debated in your mind.

I don’t even have words.

Check out more photos after the break, including a pre-tattoo one.

Neil Gaiman Confirms His ‘Doctor Who’ Episode Title, Reveals it’s About Porridge – Wait, What?

series-7-part-2-coming-soon-trailer-31-cybermen-510x287

It’s been rumored for some time that Neil Gaiman‘s contribution to the back half of Doctor Who Series 7 would be titled, “The Last Cybermen.” Well, guess what? It is. Unsurprising, since we know for a fact the episode will indeed feature Cybermen. And not just any old Cybermen, but these slightly redesigned Cyberdudes you see above. Note how their face masks reflect the Cybermen of old, think Second Doctor era.

Talking with TheMusic, Gaiman shared a little more about “The Last Cyberman,”

I've written [one] that broadcasts in May. It guest stars Warwick Davis, Tamzin Outhwaite and Jason Watkins. The episode is called The Last Cyberman. It's about identity, it's about responsibility and it's about porridge.

As funny and not totally out of the question as it would be for actual porridge to factor into Gaiman’s episode, he’s most likely referring to Davis’ character, named Porridge. In addition to the tidbits about “The Last Cybermen, he also shared who his favorite Doctor is,

I think it's really hard. It used to be Patrick Troughton, because he was my doctor, the one I grew up with. Yet, Matt Smith is amazing, and it's writing for him that gives me an increased awareness of how amazing [he is]. He is technically one of England's finest actors. Matt for me is the only Doctor who really feels a thousand years old and a kid - he really is this ancient space alien.

Now those Troughton-era Cybermen designs kind of all make sense, don’t they? And I have to agree with him, I’ve loved just about every actor who’s played The Doctor, but Matt Smith really is capturing the Time Lord like none have before. No wonder the show’s become such a monumental smash worldwide.

Gaiman set the bar super high with last season’s “The Doctor’s Wife,” how do you think “The Last Cybermen” will stack up?

Synopsis for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 3 Episode 1 Released – Read it Here!

Game-of-Thrones-Season-3

Game of Thrones will be back on TV in just about seven weeks. Seven hells, seven weeks feels too long! What I’d give to hibernate until then. Ah well, to whet your appetite here’s the synopsis of its, as of now unnamed, premiere episode. I’ll warn you non-book readers, there be spoilers ahead,

Episode #21: Jon is brought before Mance Rayder, the King Beyond the Wall, while the Night's Watch survivors retreat south. In King's Landing, Tyrion asks for his reward, Littlefinger offers Sansa a way out, and Cersei hosts a dinner for the royal family. Arya runs into the Brotherhood Without Banners. Dany sails into Slaver’s Bay. (Written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss; directed by Daniel Minahan)

Sounds legit to me. The events described here are completely on par with what happens at the end of A Clash of Kings/the beginning of A Storm of Swords. They’ve been reordering some things to better suit their series, which I applaud. I also expect this premiere episode to be a longer one, that’s a lot of characters listed above and they’ll want to give each their due amount of screen time.

Gah! I’m so excited! What are you doing to bide you time until Game of Thrones returns?

Edgar Wright Drops an ‘Ant-Man’ Update

edgar-wright-antman

It’s been a very long road, but soon Marvel’s Ant-Man will be making his big screen debut as the lead movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase III. As the near decade in development era ends for the movie about the minute hero (tentative release date is set for 2015,) filmmaker Edgar Wright dropped a few hints as to the current state of the project to IGN.

“I’ve been collaborating with [Marvel boss] Kevin [Feige] during the whole of that cycle. I think people have always assumed... 'Oh why is it taking so long to make?' Part of it is because I wanted to make two other movies first. I wanted to make World's End... me and Simon [Pegg] were very keen to make it and it felt like it was unfinished business and we wanted to wrap up the trilogy. The script came together really fast. Well not really fast, but it came together at a certain point where it was like 'I really want to do this next.”

“But to be honest, the later I do it, it feels like I could learn more, especially about special effects. It's a big effects movie, so I'm pleased to go into it having done Scott Pilgrim and The World's End because you're always learning more about that side.”

Wright also goes on to say that his favorite Marvel movies to date have been the first Iron Man and Avengers, and talked about how the whole Marvel U comes together as a whole and how his Ant-Man will fit in.

“It's a way of doing a superhero film within another genre. I wanted to tell an origin tale in a slightly different way. It's part of the Marvel cinematic universe, but it also feels like its own piece.”

While we do have to wait two more years for Hank Pym to hit theaters, I do have to say that after hearing that Wright plans to put his own twist and style into the movie I have to say it is quickly becoming the Marvel movie I am most intrigued if not excited by.

Oh ya, and remember the test footage screened at last years San Diego Comic-Con?

“I hope that at some point we'll be able to show that at some venue all finished because obviously at Comic-Con we showed it unfinished. All done it looks really good.”

Oh Edgar you tease…

‘Venture Bros.’ Will Return May 19th!

venture

Oh, what glorious news! About a month back series co-creator, Jackson Publick shared a bunch images from Season 5 and teased we’d likely see Venture Bros. return in either early March or late May, depending on when they finished work on the season premiere. Looks like things took longer rather than sooner, but we can now officially call May 19th as the premiere date for Venture Bros. Season 5.

In their usual, flippant style, [adult swim] announced the show’s return in one of their bumpers:

There you have it. Can’t dispute it when it’s present in black and white. Only about 14 more weeks to go. We can do it, Venturoos! Hell, we’ve already waited three freakin’ years!
