Cumberbatch Talks Possible Casting in ‘Star Wars Episode VII’

I swear, the Trek and the Wars are starting to blend together for me. Who'd have thought that Abrams would be directing Star Wars Episode VII after directing the new Star Trek movies? So, I guess since people are seeing that just about anything can happen, it's lead to rumors of cast members coming over to appear in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy.

The latest of these rumored castings is Benedict Cumberbatch, who stared in the Abrams directed Star Trek Into Darkness. Although Disney refused to comment on the rumor, it seems that the star himself has left it open a bit.

Of course I'd love to do Star Wars and work with JJ Abrams again because we had such a good time on Star Trek. But nobody has been cast and there are no offers out to anyone apart from the regulars who are returning. So that's that rumour quashed...We'll have to wait and see.

Wow, gotta love that answer. Nothing is definite, which basically leaves us at square one. So, for those of you who are looking forward to Cumberbatch showing up in Star Wars, there's still a chance that it could happen, but we're most likely going to have to wait until Disney decides to start dropping some of the details on their plans for the trilogy. As of right now though, there just hasn't been a definite answer either way.

It is interesting that he seems to confirm that the "regulars" are returning, which, although heavily rumored and speculated, hasn't yet been officially confirmed. Maybe he's just going on the rumors that the rest of us are, or maybe he has the inside scoop. I'm inclined to believe what the man says, as it's fairly consistent with comments made previously.

This is the simple truth. J.J. and I have worked together before. I would love to work with him again. No offer has been made. That is that. And that is that.

He's twice brought up that offers haven't yet been made, but that doesn't mean that there haven't been talks between his people and Abrams. Take this as you will, but until we get some official news, all we can do is speculate. Or, you know, take Cumberbatch's advice and just wait and see.
